Summary
209 B.C. When, after a long ocean crossing, the Roman tribune Marcus Terentius Maximus lands with his cohorts on the quay of the Indian port of Nelkinde, he realises that the mission entrusted to him by the emperor Septimius Severus, aimed at giving concrete proof to the maharajah of the Pandya kingdom of Rome's friendship, will not be pure representation. During a stopover on the Arabian coast, he learned that the kingdom was being attacked by neighbouring rajahs, intent on capitalising on the inexperience of its young ruler, Nedunj Cheliyan. As soon as they touched Indian soil the Romans found themselves at war
