Summary
This guide describes two cycle routes that follow the medieval Camino Francés pilgrim way across northern Spain from St Jean-Pied-de-Port in the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. The first (770km) is mostly off-road and suitable for mountain or trail bikes; the second (798km) is a more or less parallel route using quiet asphalt roads suitable for touring cycles. Both are described in full and are best cycled between April and October, though July and August can be very hot. Less experienced mountain-bike riders can mix and match, using the road route to avoid tough off-road sections. This guide also includes: Information on tourist sites and points of interest passed en-route; Full listings of tourist information offices and cycle shops with repair facilities; advice on how to get your bike to the route and home again
