Summary
Summer, 1984. Ebony-Grace flies from Alabama to Harlem, where she'll stay with her father while her mother cares for her grandfather. Science-fiction-obsessed Ebony-Grace doesn't have many friends in Huntsville, but she had her comic books and her grandaddy's VCR, his collection of Star Wars and Star Trek videotapes, and his air conditioner. She doesn't have any of those in Harlem. Open fire hydrants are the best AC, and the wild graffiti, rap and break dancing seem light-years away from her beloved Starship Enterprise. But the big city has a few suprises -- and friends -- in store for Ebony-Grace, and by summer's end, she discovers that Harlem has a place for a girl whose eyes are always on the stars
