Summary
1939. A young, unmarried mother, Abigail Wilson loves her small daughter Emily Grace, whose absent father doesn't even know she exists. But life in an isolated rural cottage, with judgemental and domineering Aunt Edna, has become untenable. Mother and daughter set off to Bristol, determined to make a fresh start. Though the city is overwhelming for a country girl, a chance encounter with the gregarious Eileen and Carrie leads to friendships being formed But as the dangers of war loom closer, will Abigail be able to keep herself and her daughter safe?
