Summary
"The Kimberley region of Western Australia is one of the last great wilderness areas on Earth. Covering an area of approximately 420 000 square kilometres, it is three times the size of England yet it has a population of just 30 000 people. This spectacularly beautiful region has been home to countless generations of Aboriginal people for at least 40 000 years, and Indigenous culture remains strong. Aboriginal artists have decorated caves, overhangs, and cliff faces with elaborate paintings of people, spirits, and animals; ancient and enigmatic Gwion or Bradshaw figures many thousands of years old dance on sheltered rock faces; and Wanjinas, creator spirits who put themselves onto the rocks in the Lalai, or Dreamtime, have been 'kept fresh' by repainting until recent times."
