Summary
The book will accompany an exhibition of the same title. Both the book and the exhibition describe the poverty and living conditions in Victorian England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales that lead to people emigrating to the other side of the world in slow moving sailing ships. Having survived disease and shipwreck over 12,000 miles to Australia, it then describes what they found upon their arrival in Australia and how important the postal system became to maintain contact with friends and family back in the British Isles
