Summary
Geoff Allen left Rockhampton for the Kimberley in the early 1950s with only a swag and a favourite bridle. He left 11 years later with just the swag after working on a dozen stations, mainly at stock work and horse-breaking. He returned to the old haunts 40 years later for a visit with his family and as the memories flooded back, he started to write. The result was four books. Now the man who rode stirrup-to-stirrup with the game black stockmen, who galloped after wild cleanskins on the glassy, pot-holed limestone flats and the rocky ridges, and who rolled his swag on the hard ground in wet or dry weather, has produced his final book that tells the rest of the stories about how it was
