Summary
Growing up on the whitewashed Central Coast in the 1980s and attending an elite school as a scholarship student, Lebanese-Cypriot Simone Amelia Jordan felt like an outcast among her peers. Her lifeline was hip-hop, then in its golden age. From girlhood, it's pro-Black consciousness and resonant lyrics inspired Simone to value her own cultural identity and back herself. This self-belief saw her start Australia's most successful hip-hop and R&B publication before taking her to New York City, where she would interview the biggest stars of the time as the editor of the world's most beloved rap magazine. With every step, Simone defied the odds to reach for her dreams, grappling with sexual grooming, heartbreak, chronic illness and her family's complex relationship with culture
